With our special interests, we find so much within a limited subject. If we can notice things others don't, the repetition continues to produce sensory data. If we are sensitive, it could be that what appears repetitive is not repetitive to us but continues to produce data for us. The thought I had was that this might also speak to repetitive motions being more interesting to some than creative play. I'm linking the study here for anyone interested in giving it a read: Because we notice so many details, it is harder for us and could take longer for us to generalize the things we notice. The premise is that Autistic people notice more details overall due to sensory sensitivity and this could present difficulty for us in developing a model for something like socializing or working at a job. This would result in something like understanding how to act, which is made up of all the things you notice about social interactions. This theorizes that people take in all the details of their senses and combine them to create models for how they make sense. It proposes that Autism is represented by poor "central coherence". I recently came across an interesting paper.
